Dried Zooplankton

The majority of Zooplankton is too big for most polyps’ coelenteron opening. 
Corals do not have proteolytic enzymes for protein breakdown.  
Zooplankton is indirectly digested after they become attached to the mucus layer and decomposed by bacterial activity. This process reduces the energetic value of the consumed food since bacteria consume most of its nutrients during the decomposition process.

Phytoplankton

Corals do not have proteolytic enzymes for Phyto wall digestion (Cellulose and silica in diatoms). 
Can only contribute to coral nutrition after they have been decomposed and digested by bacteria (as bacteria byproducts)

Liquid DOM

Only if the DOM molecules are small enough to penetrate the entire soft tissue it will be absorbed completely.
